Marion Jones is a United States track star who has won numerous medals in international competition.  She won 5 medals at the 2000 Olympic Games excelling at the 100m, 200m, and high jump.  After much speculation and controversy in October 2007 Jones admitted that she used anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs before the 2000 Olympics.  She was stripped of all of her medals since the year 2000, including all Olympic medals.  Since high school Marion had been accused of doping directly and indirectly because of her size and ability.  When she competed Marion Jones was huge and she towered over her competition.  Jones admitted lying to friends, press, and 2 grand juries about using steroids.  She was suspended from competition for 2 years and retired on October 5, 2007.  She also was arrested and given a 6 month prison term which she started serving March 7, 2008 and was released September 5, 2008.  Marion Jones used to be one of the most decorated and admired American athletes.  Now she is looked at as a cheat, someone who needed drugs to get that edge over her competition.

Ah, yes, the most famous client of BALCO not named Barry. Marion Jones won 3 golds and 2 bronzes at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and got her own series of Nike commercials. In a word, life was good…until federal investigators came around in 2007 asking her what she knew about Victor Conte. She lied and said she didn’t know nuthin’, but that didn’t last long. Soon she was forced to admit she’d been using ‘roids for a long time, which disqualified her and her 4×400 m relay teammates from those gold medal victories.

In response to Alicia’s comment about Richard Stone’s story- I have to say Alicia that I found your reply to be very inconsiderate. Yes we do need to teach our children how to cope with bullying and intimidation but this is a process that occurs over time as they mature and develop the skills needed to do so. We dont just pop out of the womb knowing how to deal with everything life throws at us. I would think the first lesson you need to teach a young child is that they do not have to tolerate abuse from anyone. Of course how you then go about dealing with it becomes the real challenge.

wow this is amazing. I never knew it was like this to that magnitude. I was a college athlete and they told me I was a student too. One incident that bothered me was there was as a freshman i wanted to take a particular class, We were given a sheet to pick classes and the class was only offered during practice time. I complained and said this class could be my major and said take it next semester. I said ok, so next semester the sheet to pick classes has blocked out practice time from 2:30-6pm. They didn’t care about my class, to them it was take a different class, pick a different major, I never realized others were losing their lives or limbs.

Ahh yes, this man was one of the original, and arguably innocent, scandalous professional athletes: Shoeless Joe Jackson . The Chicago White Sox baseball player took his team to a World Series title in 1917 during his heyday—with Babe Ruth even saying that he copied Jackson’s style when he took the plate. Unfortunately, his involvement in the Black Sox scandal left his reputation even dirtier than his soiled uncovered baseball stockings. Apparently, one World Series wasn't enough for Jackson, who agreed to throw the 1919 World Series for $20,000, along with seven other teammates. After Jackson only received $5,000 of his share and the public found out about the shady deal, all eight players were banned from baseball for life. That big mistake kept Jackson form getting inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and left him working at a liquor store until he died.
